UpdateThe revised numbers for New Moon have it making a whopping $26.3 million off midnight showings.
The first midnight showing estimates are in for The Twilight Saga: New Moon and predictions of the record falling were dead on.
According to sources at rival studios who spoke with Deadline Hollywood, New Moon behind stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner rose to between $23 and $24 million from Thursday 12:01am showings. That easily bests the previous record set by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince of $22.2 million set this past summer, which in turn had beaten The Dark Knight’s $18.4 million notched the summer prior.
Weekend box office predictions for The Twilight Saga: New Moon range anywhere from $85 million to $100 million or more. Based on this opening, the upper end of the range is well within reach.
