Ubisoft Planning to Release Watch Dogs in 2013

Ubisoft Planning to Release Watch Dogs in 2013Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot name-dropped his company’s futuristic techno-thriller game Watch Dogs on an investor’s call yesterday and revealed plans to put the game in our hands sometime in 2013.

The current plan, according to Guillemot, is for Watch Dogs to appear on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 before the next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft are rolled out. A Wii U appearance is still an option, but not one Ubisoft is willing to cement at this time. I’d consider the odds of Watch Dogs coming to Wii U at some point as favorable considering Ubisoft has more launch titles for Nintendo’s new console, including Nintendo itself.

Watch Dogs is designed as a “AAA” title set within a third-person, open-world environment. As the game’s protagonist, players will be able to hack into numerous electronic devices, from the city’s power grid and traffic lights to the cell phone in the lady’s hand next to you. The Blade Runner comparisons are running wild and for good reason. Watch Dogs could become to video games what Blade Runner is to film.
