If you caught Zombieland in theaters last fall then you already know Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) has a thing for Twinkies. Make that an obsession, actually. Nothing gets under the man’s skin than building up hope to uncover one of the little processed creme-filled heavenly logs only to come up empty handed.
Studios are known to toss in little promotional items with screeners from time to time, some quite creative and others not so much. For Zombieland, Sony slapped a giant movie sticker on top of a box of Twinkies and shipped it with the movie on Blu-ray to us. Not the most inventive idea, but since two Twinkies were consumed within minutes of the Blu-ray playing through I’d say the gesture was right on the money.
Taking Sony’s cue, I encourage you all to have a Twinkie or two on hand when scooping up Zombieland on Blu-ray or DVD when it hits stores on February 2. You’ll crave one when the credits roll and a little rule from the film to live by is to enjoy the little things. Even when they’re designed to clog your arteries.
If the idea of ingesting a Twinkie turns you off then think of the deed this way. The Twinkie has a history rooted in film with being the butt of the best line in Ghostbusters and having its ingredients emphatically revealed in the original Die Hard. You are honoring film with each bite taken, for better or worse.
