In case you hadn’t heard or chose to ignore the long lines of teenage girls at shopping mall cast signing events currently underway, the teen vampire drama Twilight is now officially one week away from release.
The buzz for this film is reaching epic proportions amongst young film goers with many comparing the book-turned-film’s debut to Harry Potter. I wouldn’t go that far, but Twilight is poised to put Summit Entertainment on the map and turn its lead cast into stars.
Summit, in need of a franchise, has wisely just snatched up the rights to the remaining books and hired the first film’s screenwriter, Melissa Rosenberg, to immediately adapt the second and third book, “New Moon” and “Eclipse,” for the big screen. The fourth book, “Breaking Dawn,” is currently without a writer. There’s still plenty of time to work that out.
The vampire lead, Robert Pattinson, is also secured for at least three films. He might be back to work relatively soon if Summit fast tracks New Moon once the opening weekend Twilight receipts are counted up.
