Summit Entertainment is making sure Twilight fans will open their wallets and satisfy their cravings on March 2 with at least two new releases to go gaga over.
As we reported last night, Summit and Lionsgate have chosen Saturday, March 2 to release The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 on Blu-ray and DVD. They may also release a Twilight: The Complete Saga on that same date, but we don’t have confirmation of that yet.
Officially announced this morning for Blu-ray and DVD on March 2 is the debut of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 – Extended Edition ($29.99 SRP Blu-ray). This new version of the film includes an additional eight minutes over the theatrical version, each chosen by director Bill Condon for inclusion in the new cut and supported with an optional Condon commentary. It seems like a money grab and profit certainly plays a large role in this new release. Twilight fans will eat it up either way. Eight minutes is a substantial amount of new footage.
“Between the wedding, the honeymoon, the birth, and everything in between, naturally there were things that didn’t make it into our final cut,” Condon commented about the new director’s cut. “But I wanted to make sure that for all the Twihards out there, there was a chance to see some of these cut scenes – several of which are fan favorites from the book.”
Let the speculation commence about which “fan favorite” scenes from the book will be included. Right now Summit isn’t saying, though you can get a taste in the trailer below.
Look for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 – Extended Edition on Blu-ray and DVD to each include the theatrical version as well as a digital copy and UltraViolet. The Blu-ray edition will be presented in 1080p video and 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Pre-order information will be shared as soon as it’s available.
