True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard Joins Universal’s Battleship

Universal continues to assemble its Battleship movie pieces with the addition of True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard into a starring role.

Skarsgard will play a straightforward naval officer whom is idolized by his wild and adventurous brother played by Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), according to the Hollywood Reporter. Together the brothers will participate in an international naval fleet tasked with stopping a water bound alien invasion.

Neither Skarsgard nor Kitsch have had the weight of a major motion picture on their shoulders before. Universal is putting a lot of faith into a couple supporting actors carrying what they hope will be a gamble that pays off.

Battleship begins shooting on August 30 in Hawaii under the direction of Peter Berg (Hancock). The production will then move to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 14 before arriving in theaters on June 18, 2012.
