‘True Blood’ Season 4 Scoops from PaleyFest 2011

PaleyFest 2011 this past weekend in Los Angeles cracked open the door on HBO’s ‘True Blood’ Season Four as creator/showrunner Alan Ball and 16 members of his cast took to the stage to talk about the upcoming season in a surprisingly forthcoming way. Spoilers are ahead so turn back now if you want to remain virgin to True Blood’s next season.

The ‘True Blood’ Season Four spoilers got underway before the panel began as HBO uploaded a video to YouTube from a crucial scene that fans had been hoping would make the jump from the Sookie Stackhouse books to the small screen. The scene in question features Alexander Skarsgard’s vampire Eric Northman topless and wandering aimlessly down a country road. As Alexander and Ball explained during the panel, this is the scene where Eric has just lost his memory after crossing paths with the wrong people (witches?) that effectively wiped out 1,000 years of built up hatred for humanity. He’s become more child than man and must seek the help from the friendly citizens of Bon Temps in order to survive and ultimately be reminded of the man/vampire he was.

Rutina Wesley’s Tara will also see change in season four in the form of stability. She’s been a punching bag for three seasons straight and it would seem her trip “away” at the end of season three will help her transform when she returns in season four from whereabouts unknown.

Chris Bauer’s Sheriff Andy Bellefleur will find himself sitting in a police station full of confiscated V. The allure will prove too tempting and Andy will find himself experimenting with the powerful drug. His deputy Jason will still bear the badge but now finds himself in charge of a bunch of drug addicts.

Carrie Preston’s Arlene is most definitely pregnant and the baby inside of her is a problem that will “grow exponentially bigger.” Is there a supernatural twist to the little guy? Meanwhile Sam Merlotte will take another shot at love though with whom remains a mystery for now.

Looking ahead past season four, Ball stated that he deliberately did not kill Russell Edgington as he plans to bring him back. And the buried vampire will be very pissed off when he returns. In Russell’s absence, the Fellowship of the Sun will up their aggression and protest against the vampire community.

Last but not least, Sookie will return from her Faerie adventure but still struggle to control her powers. She’s still off Bill and will instead focus her hormonal urges on Alcide and Eric.
