Transformers: Dark of the Moon Release Date Moved Up

Paramount and Dreamworks are looking to milk a little more money out of Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon by moving up its release date a couple days.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was originally slated to arrive in theaters on Friday, July 1. It will now bow on Wednesday, June 29, giving the film two extra days to earn cash prior to the Fourth of July and the arrival of Warner’s Harry Potter finale in mid-July.

Unidentified sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Paramount had always intended to move up the release date. No reason was given for waiting until 6 weeks prior to release, though the studio might have been watching to see if other films had their dates moved and waiting for the response from recent 3D footage tests.

Now Transformers: Dark of the Moon will open on the Wednesday just like the second film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did. That film opened a week earlier in the calendar month of June on the 24th yet still managed to earn $68 million its first 24 hours.
