Director Michael Bay brings his signature explosive style of awesome to the final Transformers: Age of Extinction trailer that is expected to kick off a new trilogy of films pitting Autobots against Decepticons and who knows what else.
Roughly four years have passed since the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon and the Autobots have gone into hiding i.e. truly become “robots in disguise.” As the trailer begins, a shady organization has been studying the remains of fallen Transformers and discovered the material they are made of is quite special. They probably want to gather as much of it as they possibly can.
While humans track down the last remaining Transformers, a new threat emerges from space that aims to permanently extinguish humans, hence the film’s sub-title Age of Extinction. Paramount and Bay are being cautious about revealing exactly what this threat is other than there are a lot of ships involved and they are able to suck up humans and their surroundings with relative ease.
It has already been confirmed that Transformers: Age of Extinction will feature the Decepticon Galvatron, voiced by veteran voice actor Frank Welker. In the 1986 animated film Transformers: The Movie, a dying Megatron is revitalized by planet-eating Transformer Unicron as Galvatron and given an army to battle the Autobots. A similar storyline could unfold in Transformers: Age of Extinction with Unicron remaining in the shadows while his minions — led by Galvatron — prep earth for consumption.
As Optimus Prime declares in the new Transformers: Age of Extinction trailer, a new army is required to fight this threat, and that army will be led by Grimlock of the Dinobots.
Transformers: Age of Extinction features an all-new human cast led by Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing , Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, T. J. Miller and Titus Welliver. It opens in theaters and 3D IMAX everywhere on June 27.
