Transformers 4 Gets Temp Logo and New Characters

Transformers 4 Gets Temp Logo and New CharactersTransformers 4 is shaping up to be as much a reboot as it is a sequel depending on how you interpret comments made by Hasbro earlier today.

At the UBS Best Of Americas 2012 Conference, Hasbro chief Brian Goldner agreed that Transformers: Dark of the Moon was a box office success, but the toys did not sell as well as the company had hoped. The reason for this is many of the same characters such as Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee and Starscream had already appeared in the previous two films. Most kids who would be interested in those characters already owned them, so a paint upgrade or new weapons weren’t enough to spur another purchase.

The solution to this, per Goldner, is to introduce a new cast of Transformer characters and have the story revolve around them. It’s too early to speculate on who these new characters may be or how they end up on earth, assuming the story takes place there. Fans have been calling for the Transformers Michael Bay live-action films to head to outer space, and Transformers 4 and its new robots might be the perfect platform to test that idea.

Transformers 4 is in the early days of pre-production and will arrive in theaters in summer 2014. Michael Bay is attached to direct, though no actors or actresses have yet to be attached to the project.
