As promised, the first meant for public consumption Thor trailer was unleashed via Yahoo! Movies this evening and with it came a good bit of recycled footage from Comic-Con along with some jaw-dropping all-new scenes.
The first half of the trailer sets up Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) banishment from Asgard by his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins) while brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) looks on in disbelief. Once banished and blasted to Earth, Thor is found in the desert by Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and possibly Darcy (Kat Dennings). Then the fun really begins.
Some of the new imagery that stand out in the trailer is an improved establishing shot of Asgard; extended scenes of battling Frost Giants including Thor hurling Mjolnir at one like a boomerang; Thor and Loki duking it out in what looks like Odin’s throne room; Destroyer taking on a small town; and the best of all, Thor slamming Mjolnir into the ground creating a radial shock wave from the point of impact that rips the ground into the air. This amazing shot has already been promised by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige to not be the biggest in the film.
