Third The Hobbit Film Gets a New Longer Name

Third The Hobbit Film Gets a New Longer NamePeter Jackson has had a change of heart regarding the name of the third and final The Hobbit film. As of today via an announcement made on the director’s Facebook page, the film will now be known as The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

According to Jackson, the idea for changing the title from There and Back Again first came about during the premiere trip for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug last year. He met with Warner Bros. about potentially changing the name, and it was ultimately decided to hold off until a more complete cut of the film was ready.

Now that cut is ready and after viewing it, Jackson admits that The Battle of the Five Armies title is “one title that feels completely appropriate.”

Don’t fret too much if you liked the There and Back Again title. Jackson further explains that it encompasses Bilbo Baggins’ entire journey and could appear at the title on a collection of all the films on Blu-ray and DVD in the future.

To wrap his lengthy Facebook update, Jackson states that there are 25 extra minutes of footage for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and composer Howard Shore will be creating new music for the additional footage. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: Extended Cut on Blu-ray is rumored to be released this upcoming November.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will arrive in theaters and wrap The Hobbit trilogy on December 17.
