The prequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing, also called The Thing, has been given a release date of April 29, 2011.
The date drops The Thing into an intriguing release window just prior to the summer movie season kicking off. Another horror followup, Scream 4, hits theaters on April 15. The following week, Red Riding Hood arrives on April 22. Immediately after The Thing is Marvel’s Thor on May 6.
The Thing is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen and sees a scientific expedition team stumbled across a frozen spaceship in Antarctica that hides The Thing parasite within it. All hell breaks loose when the team accidentally defrosts and awakens The Thing who mimics anything it touches to bit the team against themselves.
