The Hurt Locker, Avatar Lead Oscar Nominations 2010

The 2010 Oscar nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards are in and James Cameron’s Avatar and Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker are the early favorites with nine chances to win a piece.

For the first time since 1943 when Casablanca won, 10 films are vying for the Best Picture prize. Our own Shawn Fitzgerald easily predicted 9 of the 10 with the Coen brothers’ A Serious Man being his only miss (he had picked Star Trek instead). Even with 10 nominees, the race is expected to come down to The Hurt Locker and Avatar.

Sandra Bullock completed the unusual double play by earning a Best Actress nomination for The Blind Side to go along with her Worst Actress Razzie nomination for All About Steve. Thoguh highly unlikely, it would be an amazing feat should she manage to win both.
