The Hobbit Enlists Evangeline Lilly as an Elf

Peter Jackson has finally offered up an update on The Hobbit via Facebook and in doing so revealed that four additional actors have joined the cast.

Evangeline Lilly, best known for her turn as Kate Austen on Lost, will play the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. This is a new character whose name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood.’ Jackson is unwilling to discuss the role any further at this time, but does promise that Tauriel will not be romantically involved with Legolas.

Also joining the cast is Barry Humphries as the Goblin King. Humphries will step into a mo-cap suit, much the same way Andy Serkis did/is doing for Gollum, to bring this digitally rendered character to life.

Rounding out the new additions and wrapping up the main roles are Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug and Luke Evans as Bard.

Jackson promises to answer fan questions in an additional update “soon.” For now, I’ll revel in the fact that Evangeline Lilly scored a role in The Hobbit.
