Online retailer DVDEmpire.com has begun taking pre-orders for a special edition release of The Forbidden Kingdom on Blu-ray Disc with a September 9 release date.
The Forbidden Kingdom marks the first on-screen collaboration for Hollywood martial arts greats Jet Li and Jackie Chan. In the film, the duo is tasked with “…training and mentoring a 21st century kung-fu fanatic who’s been summoned to fight a centuries-old battle and free the imprisoned Monkey King.”
Unfortunately we don’t have any technical specs to share other than expect a widescreen 2.35:1 1080p transfer. Lionsgate has been consistent with 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio inclusion on new theatrical releases so that’s a safe bet as well.
The supplemental features warranting a special edition label are also unknown at this time though we’ll be sure to pass them along once received. There will be a second disc in the set likely including a standard-def digital copy.
