The Dark Knight Rises is trading in the friendly confines of Chicago for the Steel City of Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Film Office announced that Christopher Nolan will shoot The Dark Knight Rises in and around Pittsburgh this summer. In a statement, the director called the city “beautiful” and said that it offers absolutely everything he needs to shoot the third and final film in his Batman trilogy.
Pittsburgh has been a rumored shooting location for The Dark Knight Rises for months after Nolan and his team were spotted scouting locations on several occasions. It was believed Pittsburgh would be used for a handful of shots, not the entire on-location production. Each of the two previous Nolan Batman films were shot in Chicago.
Specific locations are still being nailed down and the shoot is expected to last 4-6 weeks. An exact production start date has not been announced.
The Dark Knight Rises will see returning cast members Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine be joined by newcomers Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Juno Temple. The planned release date is July 20, 2012.
