The first trailer for Summit Entertainment and director/actress Jodie Foster’s The Beaver starring Mel Gibson has arrived and will leave you feeling either inspired or completely creeped out.
The film follows Walter Black (Gibson) whose severe depression has led to his wife (Foster) and family separating from him. When things can’t get any worse, Black stumbles upon a beaver hand puppet in some garbage and uses its “voice” to inspire and rebuild his life.
Your enjoyment of the trailer will depend on whether you look at Mel Gibson and see the actor or the man whose name has lit up tabloids the past few years for all the wrong reasons. I personally don’t care what Mel does in his private life and continue to judge him by his work, which by and large has been – and continues to be – strong. Judging by this first look at The Beaver, Walter Black could be the role that helps flush peoples’ minds about Mel Gibson the man and refocus their thoughts on Mel Gibson the talented actor.
The Beaver currently has an August 25, 2011 release date.
