The Amazing Spider-Man is still shooting and already Columbia Pictures is briskly moving forward with plans for a sequel.
THR reports that The Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt has recently pitched an idea for a sequel to Columbia Pictures and has been given a go-ahead to start writing a screenplay. Depending on how quickly Vanderbilt can whip his story into shape, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 could be ready to roll cameras around the time The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters on July 3, 2012 should Columbia Pictures choose to keep their Spidey momentum in top gear.
The Amazing Spider-Man is directed by Marc Webb and stars The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Rhys Ifans and Embeth Davidtz round out the core cast. Shooting in Los Angeles is expected to wrap sometime next month.
