Sony Pictures has released the final trailer for director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that pulls together the best bits from the previous countless trailers and released footage, and mixes them with new looks at the Spider-Man sequel.
The new The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer opens with an extended shot of Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) swinging above and then between the skyscrapers of New York, a shot that will no doubt shine in 3D on the big screen. There appears to be several slow-motion shots of Spider-Man swinging around in the film.
Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) gets some new looks and we learn that he and Peter used to be friends and they haven’t seen each other in 10 years. Later on Harry is seen with Electro (Jamie Foxx), presumably after breaking him out of containment at Ravencroft Institute, and he says they are the ones with the power to take down Spider-Man.
We get to see portions of the transformation of Harry into Green Goblin, and the trailer ends with Green Goblin and Spider-Man fighting in the same building that Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) is seen plunging into.
The popular theory is that Goblin kills Gwen to parallel the comics, especially since she’s wearing the same outfit for her death in the comics. The jury is still out on that rumor panning out, but it would fit into the greater theme of Spider-Man being able to save everyone except the woman he loves most and set up an emotional third act.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2.
