Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Live Action Movie in 2011

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may get another Kodak moment after all.

The Mirage Group, who currently owns the property, used the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration beginning tomorrow as the backdrop to announce a new live-action film will be released in 2011.

Live-action Ninja Turtles news was rampant last summer when Mirage first hinted at a 2010 release. Subsequent rumors suggested the Ninja Turtles would be all-CGI within a real world setting ala Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Per Variety, The Mirage Group will put together a reboot that chronicles the Turtles’ origins. Executive producer Scott Mednick mentioned new facial animation technology might be used to add more lifelike movement to facial restrictions a traditional rubber suit is saddled with.

While any chance of an animated TMNT sequel is now shelved, the 2011 film will mark the 5th live-action adventure for Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael.
