The Internet is still buzzing after Zack Snyder formally announced to Comic-Con, and the world via social media, that Man of Steel 2 was a go and Batman would be crashing Superman’s sophomore outing. Now that the bat’s out of the bag, the focus has shifted to who will play Bruce Wayne/Batman, and what the film will be called.
The answer to the latter might already have been outed if screenwriter David S. Goyer gets his way. In speaking with The Huffington Post, Goyer remarked, “We’re actually not sure whether the title is ‘Superman vs. Batman’ or ‘Batman vs. Superman’ but yes, it’s that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”
The idea of Batman showing up in Metropolis or Superman visiting Gotham City in the Man of Steel universe raises countless questions that we’re not likely to start getting answers to until next year. Goyer’s quote at least offers some direction for the film, a likely adversarial first dance between Batman and Superman that turns into a collaborative effort against a strong foe by the film’s third act. That is the logical assumption, anyway.
