The first trailer for J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg’s Super 8 hit Twitter in the wee hours this morning and wouldn’t you know it is better than the :30 Super Bowl spot while still keeping the monster’s look and motives a secret.
You’ll recognize many of the shots from the Super Bowl ad that have been expanded upon. For example the poor sap in the convenience store who gets dragged down an aisle first goes to check out a strange sight or sound at the front of the store before his presumed demise.
Super 8 sleuths will be combing over this trailer and its closing frames in the camera lens and I’ll be back to share some of the new theories that pop up after the high definition version is released and we can grab screenshots. One of my theories is proven true in this trailer; this monster, or its presence, has the ability to move objects from afar by command or has some sort of natural magnetism. Wouldn’t the latter be ironic considering Abrams involvement in birthing Lost.
Super 8 stars Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, and Gabriel Basso. It invades theaters and IMAX on June 10.
