Disney and Lucasfilm have offered up a short brief glimpse at the new Star Wars: Rebels TV series that debuted on Disney XD last night. I think you’ll agree that its imagery of an Imperial Star Destroyer flying into frame from above is both familiar and iconic.
Star Wars: Rebels is set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope as the Empire takes hold and a rebellion grows to fight back. Judging by early looks at Tie Fighter concept art and now this Star Destroyer, it looks like it will more resembled the Original Trilogy rather than the Prequel Trilogy, a wise move on Lucasfilm’s part given the Clone Wars have been explored extensively already via five season of the excellent animated series of the same name.
Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni is also running the ship on this new series with help from Greg Weisman, producer and writer of Young Justice, and X-Men: First Class producer Simon Kinberg. Star Wars: Rebels should help set the table and amp up Star Wars excitement again when it premieres in the fall of 2014, less than a year before J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode 7 is expected to be released.
