Update: Paramount has issued the formal press release and cover art for Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 on Blu-ray. Cutting right to the chase, this six-disc set will be presented in 1080p video and 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Most home theater setups do not support 7.1 audio, but its inclusion on ST:TNG is an extra treat for those who can take advantage of it.
Almost all of the bonus features are on the first and last disc of the set. The middle discs only include episodic promos to go along with the actual episodes. Star Trek experts Mike and Denise Okuda, who put countless hours into the set, are well represented in the bonus features.

Original Article (April 30, 2012 10:52am): The Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 Blu-ray release date is July 24, 2012, news that should perk up the ears of Trekkies the world over as the series celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
As with The Next Generation: Next Level preview disc of three episodes released earlier this year, Paramount has painstakingly remastered every frame of the show from the original camera negatives. We already know the results speak for themselves, and in under three months, every episode of Season 1 will be ready to take home and enjoy.
Paramount has yet to issue a full Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 Blu-ray press release so we don’t have a complete list of bonus features to share. According to EW you can expect new cast and crew interviews at the very least. I would expect several featurettes that detail the lengthy and meticulous restoration process for Blu-ray.
