Stanley Tucci Joins Marvel’s Captain America Cast

Marvel has issued a press release announcing actor Stanley Tucci has joined the cast of Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America.

Tucci will play Dr. Abraham Erskine who was a German scientist in the comics behind the project that created the serum turning Steve Rogers into Captain America. How the role is written into the live action film and relates to rumors of the serum being linked to Howard Stark remains unknown.

Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones was the last time Tucci appeared on film. Some of his other credits includes Billy Bathgate, Maid in Manhattan, The Terminal and Julie & Julia, amongst many others.

Joining Tucci in Captain America are Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Jones, Sebastian Stan and Dominic Cooper. Additional roles are expected to be filled out quickly as production gears up to begin shooting this month in Great Britain.

Captain America hits theaters on July 22, 2011.
