Spider-Man Movie Has a Villain Actor But Still No Name

The main villain role in Marc Webb and Sony’s Spider-Man reboot is going to Rhys Ifans.

That’s the announcement today from Columbia Pictures and Sony ending months of speculation. Webb commented on adding Ifans to the cast, “What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys’ incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character.”

Ifans may be cast but who he will be playing remains a mystery. Looking at the actor he could really fit into any number of potential villains including rumored Venom and The Green Goblin.

Ifans will be appearing in Warner’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 next month as Xenophilius Lovegood. You might also recognize him from Greenberg, Pirate Radio and Hannibal Rising.

Spider-Man’s cast already includes Andrew Garfield as the webslinger and Emma Stone as Spidey’s first love, Gwen Stacy.
