Gary Ross is currently rewriting Spider-Man 4 and now looks to be delving deeper into the webslinger’s expanded universe.
Per Variety, Columbia Pictures has courted Ross to write the script for the Spider-Man spinoff film Venom. Rather than be a pure menace as seen in Spider-Man 3, Venom will assume the role of an anti-hero who defends the innocent against evildoers.
Topher Grace played Eddie Brock who transformed into Venom in Spider-Man 3. Though that character might have survived a blast that presumably did him in at the end of Spider-Man 3, Grace is not expected to reprise the role. Ross’ version is an origin reboot story with a new lead expected to take over.
