Sony Announces New 80GB Playstation 3, Price Cut on 60GB Model

Sony Computer Entertainment today confirmed rumors by officially announcing the 60GB Playstation 3 will see $100 shaved off its $599 price tag in August. Priced at $499, the 60GB model will stand a better chance at competing against standalone Blu-ray Disc players which are already seeing price drops across the board.

In addition, Sony has announced a new 80GB model will take over the $599 price point. This model will come packaged with ‘MotorStorm,’ no doubt influenced by Nintendo’s success with packaging Wii Sports into their Wii consoles.
