Shrek Forever After and The Whole Story on Blu-ray in December

Dreamworks’ Shrek franchise will be making a big splash on Blu-ray Disc this holiday season.

On December 7, Paramount Home Entertainment will release Shrek Forever After on Blu-ray single and combo disc with DVD formats. Additionally, all four Shrek films (Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After) will be packaged into Shrek: The Whole Story which will also be available on both formats.

Per Agent DVD, Shrek: The Whole Story will include hours of new extras headlined by the all new “Donkey’s Christmas Shrektacular” and “Shrek’s Yule Log” that features 25 characters from the series hanging out in front of a virtual fireplace. “Donkey’s Christmas Shrektacular” will also appear on Shrek Forever After along with a “12 Days of Christmas” pop-up book, interactive games, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes material and a sneak peek at Shrek the Musical.

Blu-ray 3D versions of all four Shrek films are expected to be released in December as an exclusive tied to the purchase of Samsung 3D HDTV hardware. Samsung has yet to officially date the offer’s availability.

Based on the steep Shrek Forever After pricing that you see below, Paramount is pushing consumers towards scooping up The Whole Story Blu-ray set at a cost of less than twice the single-disc Shrek Forever After Blu-ray. It’s a strategy that should pay off as the Shrek franchise is the most lucrative ever with worldwide box office receipts pushing $3 billion.

Pre-order Shrek: The Whole Story on Blu-ray for $55.99 (30% off the $79.99 list price) at Amazon.com.
