Moviegoers treated a foursome of new films at the box office on Friday with the same lack of respect they did to Sex and the City 2 and The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time last weekend.
Shrek Forever After is poised to win its third straight weekend with $6.5 million on Friday and a pace targeting the low to mid $20 million range through Sunday. Coming in a close second was Get Him to the Greek starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand with $6.3 million, followed by Killers starring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher with $5.6 million.
Bringing up the rear was Marmaduke with $3.4 million and Splice with $2.7 million. Both of those films will be clawing to top the $10 million mark through the weekend.
All told, this weekend will be the second sluggish performance for Hollywood in a row. Next weekend’s blast to the past with The A-Team and The Karate Kid cannot come soon enough.
Check back Sunday afternoon for the complete weekend box office results.
