Seann William Scott Leads American Pie Sequel Returning Cast Members

Seann William Scott has signed on to star the next American Pie sequel despite having entered a treatment facility earlier this week to take care of “health and personal issues.”

Joining Scott in American Reunion will be Jason Biggs and Eugene Levy. Universal hopes to reunite the complete core American Pie cast for American Reunion and is currently negotiating with Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Coolidge to ensure that happens.

American Pie spawned two theatrical sequels that seemingly wrapped up a trilogy with American Wedding. Universal then took advantage of a burgeoning direct-to-video market and spun off four additional films under the “American Pie Presents” banner with Eugene Levy serving as the glue that ties all seven films together.

For American Reunion, Universal intends to return to the theatrical stage and aim for the $200 million plus box office numbers that the first three films in the series each enjoyed. Securing the original American Pie cast would be a big step in the right direction.

American Reunion was written by and will be directed by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay). Production is expected to get underway on May 24 leaving Scott with two months to overcome the issues that landed him in treatment.
