Tomorrow is the Worldwide Developer Conference, or WWDC, a stage for Apple developers to meet and exchange ideas. Some big news for Apple is likely to come from the conference and dominate headlines.
A hot rumor fresh off the presses suggests Microsoft is planning to steal Apple’s thunder by issuing a press release before the conference begins announcing a new Blu-ray Xbox 360 sku is on the way. It will be in stores before the end of the year, and it will cost less than the current top-end Elite model.
Here’s the scoop verbatim as it appeared at CrunchGear.
I’ve got a close friend who works at Microsoft, previously with the HD-DVD division and now in the E&D division (Xbox, zune).
I’m told MS will upstage Apple with a Monday 9am PDT announcement (1 hour before WWDC) via press release that the Xbox 360 will get Blu-Ray before Christmas. Price was “under the current Elite,” but i could get any more details.
Microsoft has been so adamant about Blu-ray not coming to Xbox 360 anytime in the near future that I really question the validity of this scoop. We’ll find out soon enough in about, oh, 22 hours from now.
