Buena Vista Home Entertainment is planning to release the Disney hit IMAX film ‘Roving Mars’ on Blu-ray Disc July 31, day-and-date with the standard DVD debut. With the recent success of ‘Planet Earth’ on both high definition formats, high definition geographical documentary releases are sure to become more common.
The Blu-ray version’s content of ‘Roving Mars’ will be identical to the DVD version, only with high definition audio (unspecified thus far) and 1080p video. Viewers will be able to select from either a 1.78:1 widescreen or 1.33:1 full screen presentation of the film. Extra features include Disney’s 50-minute 1957 film ‘Mars and Beyond, and a ‘Mars: Past, Present and Future’ featurette.
