Robocop Reboot Viral Website Reveals Updated ED-209 and RC-2000

Robocop Reboot Viral Website Reveals Updated ED-209 and RC-2000The new Rococop reboot project is on the verge of entering production. While we wait for further information about the film from Comic-Con later this week, MGM and Sony have begun a revealing viral campaign that gives us our first glimpse of the updated hardware to be featured in the sci-fi film.

Front and center on the Omnicorp.com website is ED-209, the security robot that went haywire and proved a formidable foe for Robocop to take on in the 1987 original film. This new ED-209 is more streamlined and angular than his counterpart, yet carries forward the overall stout shape of the original with inverted knees, heavily armed arms, and a head/body combination.

The image for ED-209 says it is “battlefield tested” and “available to protect your city now.” It would seem the landscape of Robocop is much broader than the original which focused squarely on the city of Detroit.

Also touted on the OmniCorp website is the RC-2000, “where human resources meet robotic engineering.” Is this Robocop? Perhaps, or at least something tied very closely to it. The reveal of Robocop’s design could come as early as Comic-Con assuming Sony and MGM don’t want it leaked out first, or that it isn’t all digital like Green Lantern.

Robocop might encounter some air resistance as well based on a flying drone vehicle, the XT-908, that also appears on the website.

The Jose Padhila-helmed Rocobop reboot stars Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as Alex Murphy/Robocop, Samuel L. Jackson as a media mogul, Abbie Cornish as Ellen Murphy, Gary Oldman as the Robocop chief technician and creator, and Hugh Laurie as the villain and CEO of OmniCorp. The film opens on August 19, 2013 and has an estimated budget of $100 million.
