Today in Cologne, Germany, during Sony’s 2013 Gamescom press conference, they officially announced a much-needed (and much-rumored) price drop on their ridiculously powerful handheld, the PS Vita.
The PS Vita’s new price is $199, which is $50 cheaper than it was yesterday, and is effective immediately at retailers nationwide. Target actually jumped the gun on the price drop by advertising it in their weekly ad this past Sunday. It was previously rumored that the 3G version of the Vita would cease production, but the 3G models still in stores will also reduce to the new price point, which in this case is a saving of $100 off the original price. Get them while you can.
Equally important to current Vita owners is the announcement that the pricey, proprietary memory cards are also seeing a price reduction. The PS Vita 32 gb memory card drops from $99 to $79, the 16 gb memory card from $59 to $39, the 8 gb memory card from $29 to $19 and the 4 gb memory card from $19 to $14.99.
All of this news comes at an important juncture in the PS Vita’s lifecycle. With the PS4 utilizing the powerful handheld in new and exciting ways, up to and including full game share ability (albeit with less graphics power) for most PS4 games, and other social features, the Vita is a key part of the Sony Computer Entertainment plan to take over your game space. And with the PS Vita, that game space can be fully on the go.
