What could potentially be the first look at what Hugo Weaving as Red Skull will look like in Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avengers is online and, if proven legitimate, should be reason enough to rush and see the film as soon as it opens this summer.
There are two shots of Red Skull in the leaked artwork. In the first he wears a Hydra trench coat and stands at attention. In the second he holds what appears to be the Cosmic Cube/Tesseract.
I’m inclined to believe this artwork is the real deal for a couple reasons. First, the artwork style matches official concept art for Chris Evans as Captain America that surfaced last summer. Second, the Cosmic Cube that Red Skull is holding looks exactly like the over-sized ice cube that Hugo Weaving is holding in an image from the film released via Total Film magazine just a couple days ago.
If it’s fake then whoever drew it did so extremely quickly to match the Cosmic Cube look from the Hugo Weaving photo.
Johnston continues to work on the first trailer for Captain America but does not want to release it until the effects for included scenes are 100% complete. Hopefully he’ll have it ready for a big debut during the Superbowl in a little less than a month and we’ll find out for certain what Red Skull will look like on-screen.
