Playstation Vita Release Date is Revealed by Sony

Playstation Vita Release Date is Revealed by SonySony promised the Playstation Vita portable gaming system release date would be in early 2012, and today they’ve lived up to that promise.

The Playstation Vita is coming to North America, Canada, Europe and Latin America on February 22, 2012. Sony’s Jack Tretton, president and chief executive officer, SCEA, made the announcement during the Web 2.0 Summit earlier today.

Vita was originally positioned to battle Nintendo’s 3DS this holiday season in the handheld gaming market. Sony ended up delaying Vita into early 2012 in order to refine the launch and take advantage of a less crowded marketplace.

Two Vita models will be available on the launch day: a Wi-Fi equipped model for $249.99, and a 3G/Wi-Fi model for $299.99. Each will include a USB cable, AC adapter, power cord, and printed materials. Both models are already available for pre-order at several retailers including Amazon.com.

Sony claims over 100 games are currently in development for Vita including, but not limited to, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Resistance: Burning Skies, Sound Shapes, Assassin’s Creed, wipEout 2048, FIFA, and Call of Duty. The exact launch game slate is still being refined.
