Sony’s decision to use the PSP interface as the backbone for Playstation 3’s menu screens left a sour taste in the mouth of many future console owners, myself included. An opportunity existed for them to best the colorful and intuitive “Blades” found on Xbox 360, and instead we get the Xcross Media Bar, or equivilant of a PSP menu with a wave of energy flowing behind it. Where’s the fun in that?
Below is a look at several of the menu screens found on the Playstation 3, including how player avatars will appear with transparency, songs can be grouped into virtual albums and how users are designed by cute little icons. You know how we feel, so now you can be the judge and jury on whether the Xcross Media Bar (XMB) has what it takes to dethrone Xbox 360’s Blades.
