Percy Jackson Movie Sequel is Moving Forward

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief arrived in theaters in February 2010 as Fox’s hopeful answer to Warner Bros. Harry Potter franchise. When it didn’t put up Potter-like numbers, there appeared to be no rush to continue the adventures of Poseidon’s young son.

According to the L.A. Times, Fox is not only intent on continuing the Percy Jackson film franchise but have already hired Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen the next script. The pair worked together previously on Ed Wood and Agent Cody Banks and are writing Percy Jackson 2 based off the second book in the series, ‘The Sea of Monsters.’

The source that contacted the L.A. Times with this scoop cautioned that the sequel is still in the early phases of development. Though the stars Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson are all expected to return, Lightning Thief’s director Christopher Columbus is not. In fact, no director is yet attached to the project.

A director could be hired this spring with shooting commencing as early as this summer if the script comes together quickly and Fox is satisfied. That could put Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters into theaters in 2012 which would be a manageable two-year break between films.
