Pacific Rim Sequel Script is Underway In Case of Monster Hit

Pacific Rim Sequel Script is Underway In Case of Monster HitWarner Bros. wants to make sure all systems are go in case Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim destroys the box office and fans cry for more Jaeger robot on giant monsters action.

According to THR, the studio has hired Travis Beacham, who penned the original Pacific Rim treatment, to get to work on a sequel immediately with del Toro’s help. Keep in mind Pacific Rim hasn’t even had its first trailer released yet.

By getting a script ready for Pacific Rim 2 sooner rather than later, Warner Bros. will be able to jump on the project when del Toro’s schedule opens up wide enough to fit it. Just yesterday it was revealed that del Toro’s next directing gig will be the horror film Crimson Peak for Legendary Pictures. The soonest he would be freed up to direct Pacific Rim 2 would be early 2014.

As for that first Pacific Rim trailer, the viral website launched a week ago now has just over a week left on it’s countdown to Wednesday, December 12. The theory is Warner Bros. will then reveal the first Pacific Rim trailer, and first look at the film’s Jaeger robots and monsters, to the public after a tease was shown at Comic-Con this past summer.

Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. The massive-scale monster invasion film stomps ashore into theaters on July 12, 2013.
