Nintendo 3DS Adds 3D Video Recording in November; Mario Tennis in 2012

In an effort to help boost sales of their struggling new hand-held device, Nintendo today announced a new system update is coming in November and a new Mario-themed game in 2012.

The November update will enable 3DS owners to shoot and playback 3D video, much in the way they can take 3D pictures now. This will mark the first instance a Nintendo device will be able to double as a mini-camcorder. No mention was made in the press release of how many minutes of video would fit on a standard SD card.

The same system update will also add new unspecified StreetPass challenges for those gamers out there that have conquered all the existing ones.

Sometime in 2012, Nintendo will release a new entry in the expansive universe of Mario games, Mario Tennis. No further information about this new game is available at this time.

Luigi’s Mansion 2, Paper Mario and Animal Crossing for 3DS, all playable at E3 this past June, were finally confirmed for a 2012 release after not appearing in any of Nintendo’s holiday season news blasts. Additionally, Kid Icarus: Uprising, originally thought to be coming this year, has been pushed back into 2012.

Nintendo has also released new screens and video for Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land for 3DS, due out this holiday season. I’ll share those in separate posts.
