It’s currently unknown whether Sony’s Playstation 4 will include a traditional “pack-in” game when drops into stores later this year. Even if it doesn’t, Digital Extremes is offering a spruced up version of the PC action title Ninja: Warframe via the free-to-play model that will be available to fire up immediately on launch day.
What’s neat about this port is that Digital Extremes is embracing the new tools that PS4 offers and executing a plan that will utilize them in order to make this version stand out. For example, a swipe of the touch-pad will activate Warframe powers. The Alerts system will send notifications of co-op opportunities to earn “stellar rewards,” in the words of project lead Steve Sinclair. These alerts will be available not only through the PS4 console, but also via iOS and Android devices via the Warframe Nexus app. The app will have other features as well that will likely come to light at E3 next week.
Speaking of E3, Digital Extremes is putting the finishing touches on a playable demo that runs in smooth 1080p. The demo starts with “Press X to Ninja” and I hope to get my hands on it on the convention floor.
