New Evil Dead Movie Has Director and Nearing Production

Evidence of a new Evil Dead movie has come to light over the past few days including star Bruce Campbell sounding off, Sam Raimi’s editor heading to Detroit to set up for production, and the hiring of a director to helm the project.

The news started at Dread Central where inside sources told them that Sam Raimi editor Bob Murawski, who worked on the third Evil Dead film Army of Darkness, had flown to Detroit, Michigan in preparation to shoot a fourth Evil Dead film. According to the source, the film would be a small indie production like the first two and less of an effects-spectacle like Army of Darkness was.

Over the weekend, Bruce Campbell’s official website (BruceCampbell.com) reported that the King had joined Twitter under the handle @GroovyBruce (be sure to follow him). A follower told Bruce that they wouldn’t believe a new Evil Dead film was coming unless they heard Bruce confirm it himself. Sure enough, Bruce responded with the following message:

What’s interesting about Bruce’s choice of words is that he calls the film specifically a “remake” versus a “sequel.” Following that logic ties into the first scoop suggesting the film would be small an intimate.

The final nail in the coffin is a report from Bloody Disgusting today in which they’ve learned that Fede Alvarez (Federico Alvarez) has already boarded the project to direct. They also state that early production is already underway in Detroit for Mandate Pictures and Ghost House.

That’s the latest on a new Evil Dead film which by all accounts appears to be definitively on the way. Now all we need is some sort of a synopsis so we can determine how much of a remake it really is. With Bruce on Twitter, there’s a chance he’ll be sharing some inside information on the production as it ramps up and kicks into high gear.
