The summer floodgates officially sprung open at Amazon.com this past weekend as scores of diverse new Blu-ray Disc pre-orders began popping up.
The first batch of pre-orders consist of several MGM action titles due on June 2 to tie into Father’s Day. Road House and To Live and Die in L.A. should prove popular. Navy Seals, not so much.
A number of previously dated Sony titles went live including sought after Ghostbusters, Glory, No Way Back and Striking Distance.
Fox will continue to lead the TV on Blu-ray charge by releasing the first season of Dollhouse sometime this year. Though not dated, this should prove a popular title to go along with 24 and Burn Notice.
The largest and previously unknown collection of pre-orders are all unannounced and undated Sony catalog titles. Big cult classic names like Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Snatch and Blue Thunder combined with other male-skewed titles makes us believe this is another Father’s Day promotion which would put the titles in stores the first half of June.
Also included in the Sony catalog collection is a Wolf, Dracula, and Frankenstein Trilogy box set. The listing doesn’t specify which titles these are but our best guess would be previously released Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Mary Shelling’s Frankenstein with Robert DeNiro and Wolf with Jack Nicholson. The Universal classic monster flicks will have to wait.
Official announcements for all these titles will be forthcoming in the days or weeks ahead. We’ll pass along disc specs, bonus features and cover art goodies for each as soon as they are available.
