While Mickey Rourke continues to work on Iron Man 2 with Jon Favreau and his esteemed cast, the comeback kid chatted briefly about his role in the superhero sequel with The Guardian sometime early on in the film’s production.
Rourke is playing Whiplash, a Russian arms dealer and nemesis of Tony Stark / Iron Man who will have his own customized technological armaments at his disposal. Little is known about how the character will be portrayed or look in the film other than a few hints Rourke has dropped in the press.
To The Guardian he revealed, “I decided to do half my role in Russian… and that’s hard because the Russian language doesn’t roll off the English-speaking tongue very easily. I spent three hours a day with a teacher, and after two weeks I know four sentences! Let me see, it’s sort of like… ‘Yezzamee menya… Yezzamee manya obott… Er, nemaboootty menya…'”
What looks like jibberish translates into an actual movie line: “If someone kills me, don’t wake me up, because I’d rather be dead than live in your world.” Should be awesome coming from Rourke’s tongue.
Adding this information to what an Empire interview previously revealed about Whiplash’s suit (it weighs 23lbs, covers half his body with the other half full of tattoos) tells us the Russian should be one badass villain on-screen. In theory.
Cross your fingers that Favreau is in a giving mood at Comic-Con next month and reveals Whiplash in all his vodka drinking and Russian speaking glory.
