Back on June 10 we reported that actor Michael Fassbender was being considered by Sony to star in the Spider-Man reboot and by Fox to play a young Magneto in X-Men: First Class. That scoop came from Roger Friedman whom has since returned with Fassbender’s final decision.
Whether lured by the opportunity to play a younger version of Ian McKellen, act alongside James McAvoy, work under Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) or enjoy a bigger paycheck, Fassbender has chosen to go the way of the mutant rather than up against a young webslinger. He joins Benjamin Walker as well as McAvoy on the still burgeoning cast list.
Fox is likely holding off on officially announcing any cast members until Comic-Con next month, at which time they can either parade the ensemble cast on stage or via telecast. In addition to definitely confirming the cast, the convention should also confirm the final roster of mutants that will appear in the film alongside Xavier and Charles.
