Matthew McConaughey Boards Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike Movie

Matthew McConaughey has been enlisted to join fellow light-haired and female-adored actors Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer in Magic Mike, an upcoming indie film from Steven Soderbergh.

In Magic Mike, McConaughey will play a former exoctic dancer named Dallas who owns and operates a club called Xquisite. Working at the club is Tatum’s character whose name referenced in the film’s title. He’s the lead and the story reportedly draws from Tatum’s real life experiences as a stripper before he became an actor.

Pettyfer co-stars as an up-and-coming stripper who Tatum takes under his wing to show him the ropes of the business and how to make the most cash from it.

McConaughey has been a hot commodity on the indie film scene since his stellar performance in The Lincoln Lawyer, which recently was released on Blu-ray. He will next be seen on-screen in Richard Linklater’s Bernie, followed by William Friedkin’s Killer Joe and Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy. He’ll also shoot Jeff Nichols’ Mud before ultimately tackling Magic Mike at some point in the near future.
