Marvel and Disney have announced that director Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins is coming to Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD on a release date of February 25, 2014. The Digital HD version will arrive a full three weeks earlier on February 4.
Thor: The Dark World is the second film in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe Phase 2 that will culminate in summer 2015 with the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. While it has outperformed the original Thor at the box office, Blu-ray pre-orders have been slow compared to other titles and have yet to crack Amazon’s top 10 bestsellers chart.
Two key bonus features on the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray are a sneak peek at this upcoming April’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and an all-new Marvel One-Shot titled ‘All Hail the King,’ which may directly feed off of the conclusion of Thor: The Dark World and star one of its characters.
Thor: The Dark World on Blu-ray will be presented in 2.4:1 1080p video and 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. There will be Blu-ray 3D combo and Blu-ray packs available, with the Blu-ray 3D set including the Digital HD version of the film, while the regular Blu-ray edition is a single-disc set with no other versions. The bonus features for each version break down as follows:
