Your eyes don’t deceive you. That’s Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) adjusting his “junk” in the second full and quite spectacular new trailer for Marvel’s intergalactic space romp, Guardians of the Galaxy.
After three days of teaser trailers for the full trailer, Marvel dropped the real deal this morning following an online q/a with Marvel chief Kevin Feige, director James Gunn, and stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan on Facebook. The highlight of the q/a had to be Pratt casually answering a question about his reaction to being offered the role, and then closing the straightforward reaction with, “Also, I had a boner.”
The second Guardians of the Galaxy trailer starts with the Star-Lord introduction scene we’ve seen countless times before, only this time we see his helmet “vanish” from his head as Korath the Pursuer asks Star-Lord who he is. The scene extends further to reveal how Star-Lord escapes the dicey situation, including jumping on an alien landscape with the mask back on his head.
There are quite a few new firsts in the trailer, including the long-awaited reveal of Vin Diesel voicing Groot’s lone line, “I Am Groot.” We also get our first look at Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael, though it only lasts literally a second.
Ronan The Accuser (Lee Pace) makes his first appearance, though like Nova Prime, it’s only for a second or two. We do get to see Ronan briefly use his funky hammer weapon in action.
Another great reveal is the planet Knowhere, the massive decaying head of a Celestial being that the Guardians are speeding toward in their ship with Rocket Raccoon at the controls. Rocket even gets the final frame of the trailer, screaming as he pilots the ship into trouble.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is locked into an August 1 release. Though it doesn’t appear to, this film is in the same universe as The Avengers and Thanos, as seen in the post-credits scene of The Avengers, will appear at some point.
